How Vale reads your request

Draft · AI use, what it can and cannot do

What this page is

A working draft of the AI transparency page, written to save a lawyer time. It is not legal advice, it has not been reviewed by a lawyer, and it does not claim that Vale complies with any law. Text like [PLACEHOLDER: this] is unknown or undecided. Boxes marked "Drafting note" are for the owner and the lawyer.

The short version

When it is switched on and working, an AI language model reads the sentence you type in the request box and turns it into a list of steps (for example "gym, then lunch, then a bar"). If the AI is off, fails, is slow or has used up its free daily allowance, Vale reads your sentence with its own word rules instead. Above your steps Vale always says which one read it: "Understood by AI", "Understood by Claude" (only in the owner's preview inside claude.ai), "Read by word rules" or "Edited by you". The AI never pays, never books and never picks a venue's price or opening hours.

1. What the AI does

  1. It receives only what you typed in the request box (at most 600 characters), the list of activities Vale can plan, your language, the chosen date and the name of the area you start from, if you picked one or shared your location (only the area's name, never your coordinates). It does not receive your exact location, your saved plans, payment details or anything else on your device.
  2. It answers with the steps in your order, any clock times you gave, a short note per step, and, if you asked a question, a short general answer.
  3. Vale checks the answer before using it: unknown activities are dropped and listed as "not understood", times must be real clock times, and text is shortened and cleaned.
  4. Vale then chooses the places itself, from places it has checked against a named source with a date, or marks a step "No checked venue yet". The AI does not choose venues.

2. Which AI, and where your text goes

Vale's server does not store or log the text you type. It keeps a count of requests per day and, for a minute, per network address, only to stay inside the free allowance and stop abuse. Drafting note (remove before any launch)

The EU AI Act (Article 50) asks providers of AI systems meant to interact directly with people to make sure the person is told it is an AI system, unless obvious; these duties apply from 2 August 2026. The "Understood by AI" label and this page are meant to do that; the lawyer should confirm wording and placement. Also needed before switching the AI on publicly: the Privacy notice must name Cloudflare as the provider receiving the request text, and the owner should check Cloudflare's data processing terms. Google's Gemini API free tier was not chosen partly because its terms require paid services for apps offered to users in the EEA.
